You Are Cordially Invited...

This is a series of invitations by Keetra Dean Dixon. I love how she uses a typically mundane topic, a formal invitation, and makes it original and fun. Her unexpected invitations to "invest in the fantastic" or "twist the cynical loop" make me smile, and the invitations themselves are very visually pleasing as well, especially the typography. Her letters are beautifully crafted and so unique, I could look at them for quite some time.

Also, I stumbled upon this useful design resource site and I thought I'd pass it along-

It is especially helpful if you are looking for the dimensions of something with a standardized size (postcards, dvd and cd inserts, envelopes, etc.)

James Brown

I really like this image. It has a good use of cool colors that are being used to give the image a certain feel. This is a great use of typography to create the face of james brown. Looks like this artist took a long time sketching and brainstorming where they wanted what words and how big they wanted them. This example gives the impression that he is singing because of the words going out from the head in a radial way.

Dancing with the Sun

This image is on the cover of a magazine I subscribe to and it really caught my eye. I love the colors, the movement of the drawing, the simple images. The artist's name is Mara Berendt Friedman and you can find more of her work at http://www.newmoonvisions.com/home/nm1/smartlist_109/artnote.html.

Illustrations - Alberto Seveso

I'm really interested in the usage of the body and forming the different words on to them...and completely forming the shape of the body using other illustrations.. the use of color and everything is really balanced out.
I found this and i thought it was pretty interesting. The color choices are great and I think the outline is unique, I like that it's only there in certain places. I think the use of black in his shirt also lets the remaining colors pop out more around the composition. I just think it's pretty cool, has a pop art mood to it.

Virtual Galleries?

An example of yet another potential artistic outlet...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kGxCP0x0co

When I saw this I imagined creating some sort of dreamscape as part of a project, something like this could easily be engineered to cater to not only wide audiences for movies and videogames but also to the digital artist looking to expand into more realistic artwork or even as a way to portray quite literally a virtual gallery of their own work. Something like this would allow viewers on say the internet or in a museum to navigate through a virtual gallery of an artists work, where the gallery setting itself could be fully customized to the artists liking. I realize I'm a technology nerd but there's so much potential for beauty from the innovations to come.

Interesting

I found this design while searching the net. This really caught my eye with the colors and because of the strong diagonals it uses. The way the bottle blends into the background color with certain features emphasized also helps this piece too.

beyond penmanship

This piece caught my eye because of the way the artist used only lines to create something that is visually interesting. They were able to give it texture and depth just by the way that the lines are arranged next to each other. It also keeps your attention and leads your eye through the entire piece because there is so much movement.
